STEEL AND TINWARE

SMOOTH SIDE CANTEEN

This is a reproduction of one of the most common types of canteen issued by the Union Army during the war.  Similar canteens

were issued by the Confederates as well, and of course, many captured Union canteens were used by Rebel soldiers on all fronts

during the war.  We offer these  in durable, long-lasting stainless steel.  The canteens are constructed using lead-free solder,

and each canteen is equipped with a canvas carrying strap, cork chain, and wool cover.  Holds about a quart of water. Covers are

available in Gray or Dark Blue.

Item # STEEL-1-A...SMOOTH SIDE STEEL CANTEEN, GRAY WOOL COVER

$23.99 EACH

Item # STEEL-1-B...SMOOTH SIDE STEEL CANTEEN, DARK BLUE WOOL COVER

ITEM # TIN-2...CARTRIDGE BOX TINS

Our Cartridge Box Tins are made of heavy duty tin, just like the originals.  Cartridge Box Tins are used inside the Cartridge Box

to hold cartridges for safety reasons.  Most reenactments won't let you on the field without them.  If you have already bought your

cartridge box but don't have your tins yet (because the Sutler you bought it from...unlike BUTTERNUTS AND BLUECOATS...didn't

include them with your cartridge box), we have them in both Springfield and Enfield pattern.  Just FYI, you need two Springfield Tins

to fit the Springfield Cartridge Box, but the Enfield Cartridge Box uses a bigger Tin and you only need one.  That's why they are

 different prices!

Item # TIN-2-A...Springfield Cartridge Box Tin

$5.00 EACH

Item # TIN-2-B...Enfield Cartridge Box Tin

$8.00 EACH

BULLSEYE CANTEEN WITH WOOL COVER

Soon after the war began, somebody in the U.S. Ordnance Department decided that if you stamped a series of concentric rings into

the side of a tin canteen, it would help to prevent them from getting dents in them.  It didn't work all that well, but many thousands of

these canteens were issued to Union forces (and used after being captured by Confederate forces) during the war.  The canteen is

made of rust-proof stainless steel, with lead-free solder.  Sorry, not available in tin. Available with wool covers in dark blue or gray.
